                               Help, Hassles and Hiring  …………… .          .

Help with costs: Citylink & ScotRail offer or accept several discount cards, runabout tickets & special fares (some include CalMac & Bowmans on Mull).  Advance booking may be cheaper.

Some journeys are subsidised by, or operated for, Argyll and Bute Council.   Several are shown in the tables.   Fares may be less than for unsubsidised journeys by the same operator.

Highland Railcards cost £7.50, are available only to adult residents, and give 50% off fares on the West and North Highland Lines.  Information from Oban Station or 01463 239026.

Strathclyde Concession Cards:   All holders travel half fare on all trains Oban-Glasgow and free on all service buses in this Guide (incl the Mull Shuttle) except east of Tyndrum (p 8) and north of Mull (on pp 18-19).   Reservations costing £1.50 are recommended for Citylink (08705 50 50 50 or see p 4).   Islanders also travel free on their local ferries.    All residents over 60 or disabled can apply.   Further information from post offices,  0141 333 3211 or www.spt.co.uk

Residents travelling to hospital may claim travel & accommodation expenses.   Details from 0800 220 759 or your surgery.   For routes to homes & hospitals see www.mict.co.uk   CalMac offer reduced fares for cars taking patients to hospital with a warrant from their doctor.
